Frequently Asked Questions
-
What information do I need to submit a case?
Please don't feel pressure to complete every field. The form is designed to capture a full ophthalmic workup and double as an educational tool, but we know that's not always realistic in a busy practice. Submit what you have! The more you can provide, the more specific our recommendations will be, but we can meet you where you are.
-
How does the teleconsult report integrate with my existing workflow?
The report is designed to complement your clinical judgment, not replace it. You'll receive a structured written report you can reference during client conversations, incorporate into your medical records, and use to guide your treatment or referral decisions.
Each case also serves as a genuine learning tool — we encourage DVMs to build and keep a personal case library over time. Reviewing your submitted cases is one of the most practical ways to sharpen your ophthalmic clinical skills, recognize patterns earlier, and grow more confident managing ocular conditions in practice. Many of our DVMs find their library becomes a go-to reference they return to again and again.
-
When should I choose a STAT case over a standard submission?
Choose STAT when you have a patient in front of you or returning same day, a suspected vision threatening condition such as acute uveitis, glaucoma, or corneal perforation, or a situation where you need to make an urgent treatment decision.
Standard cases work well for follow up reviews, chronic condition management, and cases where you have a day or two of flexibility.
-
What types of ocular conditions does Visionary Veterinary Consulting® consult on?
We consult on a wide range of small animal ocular conditions including corneal disease, anterior uveitis, glaucoma, lens pathology, retinal disease, eyelid and adnexal abnormalities, and more. If you're unsure whether a case is appropriate, submit it. Our goal is to be a resource you reach for early, not just when you're stuck.
-
How is a teleconsult different from a referral?
A teleconsult gives you specialist input while keeping the patient in your care. It's ideal when a referral isn't accessible, isn't what the client wants, or when you simply want a second opinion before deciding next steps. It also helps you have a more informed conversation with your client about whether a referral is warranted — and why.
-
Is there a follow up included with each case?
Yes. Every consultation includes one follow up submission through the same case number. This allows you to share updated imaging, new findings, or response to treatment and receive additional guidance without submitting a new case.
-
How do I access my completed report?
Reports are delivered directly to the email address you provide at submission. Standard cases are returned within 24 hours and STAT cases within 12 hours.
If you need to retrieve a past report, please contact us. Please note that cases are retained for 60 days from the date of submission, so we recommend saving your report to your records upon receipt.
